PLACES TO VISIT IN TULLY, COUNTY KILDARE, IRELAND - ATTRACTIONS, HISTORIC HOUSES, CASTLES, GARDENS IN TULLY, COUNTY KILDARE, IRELAND

The Irish National Stud & Japanese Gardens are situated 40 minutes from Dublin off the N7 approximately 1 mile outside Kilare Town. The farm at Tully, Kildare which is today the home of the Irish National Stud, was the brainchild of Colonel William Hall-Walker, a Scotsman of a famous brewery family in 1900. He decided, much against the wishes of his father, to breed thoroughbred horses at Tully.

In 1945 The Irish National Stud Company was formed. Its primary aim was to promote the interests of the Irish Bloodstock industry with a view to improving the quality of bloodstock in Ireland by providing the services of the high-class stallions on the farm. The Stud is set amid 958 acres of lush County Kildare parkland, the centre offers equestrian accommodation across 288 boxes where the visitor can get close to some of the world’s finest mares, foals and stallions.

The ruins of the 16th century Black Abbey which was stormed during the reformation, is carefully preserved in its own grounds on the Tully farm.

The Japanese Gardens are tranquil, beautiful and offer the visitor an exotic oasis in which to wander and wonder at nature’s oriental magnificence. Laid out between 1906 and 1910 by Japanese horticultural experts Eida and his son Minoru, these superb and exciting gardens are carefully themed to mirror the journey of the human sprit and are worthy of a visit while at the stud.St. Fiachra’s Garden has 4 acres of woodland and lakeside walks.

It features a Waterford Crystal garden set within a Monastic cell which is located in the centre of the garden. This garden is also situated in the grounds of the Irish National Stud and was first opened to the public in 1999.
